Little Emma has joined our team

Big things have been happening to my graphics comapny Pix and Mix over the last couple of months and we now have a new member of staff. Let me introduce Emma (AKA Gummy Bear).
Emma is an awesome graphic designer, illustrator and designer/maker of the coolest plush toys i've ever seen!

Now let me tell you about how we met Emma and the story behind us employing her!
Just before Christmas last year I attended a craft fair at a local school, I wasn't expecting to see much that interested me but got a huge surprise when I found I stall that was full of handmade plush toys, they reminded me of the kawaii Japanise style art that I love! I picked up a business card and said 'great toys, I love the designs' to the girl that was selling them. As soon as I got home I had a browse around the site and saw even more cute animals and beings, I also read a bit about emma and saw her CV that she's included on her website.
A few days went past. Then one evening I got an email sent to my companies email address from a girl who was looking for a graphic design job. I thought it was a shame as we couldn't employ another graphic designer at the time but thought i'd check her CV out before I wrote back and told her the bad news, Imagine my suprprise when I clicked on her CV and realised it was the same CV that i'd seen a few days before on the website with the plush toys!

After coming around from the shock I thought it would be a good idea to contact her and ask her to come in for an informal chat with us as I really liked her work. We were looking to employ a PA at the time and wondered if Emma would be able to do this for us then when we got lots of design jobs she could help me do some of that too!
The day of the interview…

Emma arrived to the interview spot on time and dressed in a very smart but extreamly funky way, as she walked in I noticed she was carrying a bag just like mine and had tights with a tattoo pattern on that were just like mine too, we had a good chat and realised that as well as liking the same sort of things we worked in the same kind of way and had the same ideas about what we'd like to achive in the future.
Emma finished her interview and left, I spoke to my dad who's Emmas boss and owner of our group of companies (Gareth Holsgrove Associates Ltd) and we decided to give her a ring later in the day and offer her a job.
Later on that day my dad phoned me and told me that Emma had accepted the job, I was dancing around my loving room at the fantastic news!

Emma's first day at the Pix and Mix Design Office…

A few days before Emma joined us I got really ill and couldn't stop being sick, I felt absolutely awful and couldn't believe the timing of it all! I dragged myself in to the office and a few minutes after I arrived Emma arrived full of life to find me curled up in an office chair using my coat as a blanket and trembling. I must have looked so awful and really hoped I didn't put Emma off working with us!
We had a team meeting then asked Emma if she'd like to re-design our company logo for us. She got cracking right away and I went home to bed where I stayed for the next 6 days!

Since then I have been working alongside the awesome Emma on various projects including the re-design and building of our company website and am really looking forward to our new adventures at work.

My adventures in the new office begin!

I've finally moved in to the new office and have christened it already by eating far too many mini chocolate chip muffins and saying 'cheers' with a can of coca-cola!
The weather has been awful for the last few days and we didn't think it was a good idea to move electrical and paper equipment during all the wind and rain, the sky was blue this morning so we made today the day!

My graphics company Pix and Mix is now part of a group of company's called Gareth Holsgrove Associates Ltd, this will give us all the resources to offer an even better service.
We will be introducing lots of new and exciting things over the next few months so I can't wait to finalise the details and offer them to the world.

Another partner of our company is Spectrum Lifestyle that sells DVD's and online books.
Spectrum Lifestyle is run by 3 very talented and creative young adults, they also moved in to the office today and seemed far more organised than me.  All of their DVD's have been put on the shelves in alphabetical order, it seems they are suffering from a severe case of office OCD, I do hope it's not infectious!

My wonderful hubby also came along and helped us to move then spent a few hours putting my new desk together, he feels like he's been on The Krypton Factor now, I've never seen so many different shaped and sized screws in my life, I'm sure he'll be dreaming about them tonight!

Just as i am finishing this blog and looking forward to a nice dinner and chilled evening in front of the tv our Carbon Monoxide alarm goes off, my hubby has just phoned the gas company up and they've told us to turn the oven and heating off and not to turn anything electrical on or off untill they arrive in 2 hours, i'm so glad my laptop and tv are already on although i do have to keep the windows and doors open and freeze my feet off untill they arrive!!

Anyway I'm going to be updating Pix and Mix's website over the next few weeks and adding the new services.
You can still contact us via the website www.pixandmix.org.uk if you wish to talk about work.

As for my online gift shops I've added even more gifts to both so pop in and check them out here
