Infrared Lanscape Photography – walk in the park

Here’s the first few photos taken with my newly converted infrared camera!

It arrived yesterday morning so we took a visit to Nene Park in Peterborough to test it out on some landscape photography and have a nice walk at the same time!

The photos have only been edited very quickly and I’m not 100% happy with the results but will keep working on them and experimenting with different settings on the camera until I am happy … I have a feeling this is gonna be a whole new learning experience!!

The camera was converted to a 665nM wavelength filter so if anyone has any tips and advice I’d very much like to know, all hints welcome, please comment below or contact me via the form on my website.

Great day at the craft fair (photos)

Here’s a couple of pictures from todays craft fair.

Loved doing it but my poor back and shoulder is suffering now, and I think my socks may well have welded themselves to my feet after standing for so long!

Looking forward to the next one … and looking forward to an evening on the sofa!

Scuba diving teddy bear wins a competition

wooohooo we've won a competition involving a photo, a teddy bear, scuba diving, and a very confussed Egyptian man!
Back in October we went on holiday to Egypt and flew with Easyjet.
While we were on the plane we saw a teddy bear that they were advertising called 'Gulliver' well Gulliver Bear likes to travel and easyjet were holding a competition and asking people to take a photo of gulliver bear on holiday!
As most of you know my husband has a bit of a teddy bear problem and insists that all bears should have a good home so buys one every time he sees one for sale!
We were going to Egypt to do some more scuba diving in the Red Sea and take some more underwater photos for my portfolio so thought this was the perfect opportunity to take some photos of Gulliver bear!
We found a shop that sold scuba diving gear so went in and bought Gulliver bear some goggles to wear, the sea is so salty in Egypt, it really stings your eyes and he'd get a much better view of all the pretty fish and coral with goggles on.
We found the smallest goggles and went to pay for them. The Egyptian shop owner told us that these weren't very good for an adult and we should get masks and snorkels if we wanted to see more. We tried to explain they weren't for us, they were for a teddy bear but he didn't understand, after about 15 minutes of trying to explain he sold us the goggles and thought they were going to be used by a child!
We went back to our room picked up our scuba gear and kitted Gulliver bear up ready for a dive.
We had to walk past the shop to get to the beach and the man who had sold us the goggles was outside so we showed him Gulliver bear sporting his new goggles!
He hooted with laughter when he realised the goggles were for a bear and called all the other shop keepers out to take a look!
Gulliver bear grew very famous on holiday and grew to know all the dive instructors and hotel staff very well! He enjoyed 12 dives while he was on his trip and grew to be very good friends with some clown fish too!
Easyjet have featured one of our pictures in their in-flight 'Traveller' magazine and we won 2 flights on easyjet so will be returning to Egypt in a few months for some more scuba diving and underwater photography! Gulliver bear is so looking forward to his next adventure in the sea and I'm sure the hotel staff are looking forward to seeing him again too!

My awards at the Camera Clubs Exhibition

Our Camera Club held its annual exhibition yesterday and quite a few of my prints and digital images were on display as well as hundreds of amazing photography prints from all of the other members of the club.
We were allowed to submit 15 colour print, 15 monochrome prints and 15 digital images which are then judged and the best ones are picked out to go in the show.
I submitted about 20 images and lots of them were featured in the show.
Much to my surprise I found out that i'd been awarded 3rd place in the Natural History category for this Sergeant Major Fish Print

To top it off I was also awarded 2nd place in the people/portraits category for an art nude print.

I really wasn't expecting to get two awards so it was a lovely surprise when i found out!
I'm really looking forward to next years exhibition now and am itching to get out and about with my camera again!

Scuba Diving in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt

I'm back after a fantastic scuba diving holiday in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
We did our PADI open water course last year and went back to the same hotel (Reef Oasis) to get some more diving in!
The sea seemed a bit colder this year and there seemed to be less fish around than prevoius years which was a shame but we still had a great time scuba diving and snorkeling.
I also tried out my new underwater camera, its a Panasonic Lumix DMC - TS3 It's quite good but i'll have to save up for the underwater camera case for my Canon D60 as i'm so used to using a manual camera and only being able to use an auto mode is frustrating!
I'm glad to say we didn't see any sharks while we were there, although i did get a fright from a 3ft Trigger fish who decided to chase me! I think I scared him away with my bright pink fins kicking franticly as I swam in the opposite direction ... he had big teeth!

I thought i'd make these AV's from my un-edited holiday snaps instead of uploading the pictures one by one to the net as it's much quicker and easier for everyone to see.

I also have many pictures here that i'll be uploading to a stock library and my POD sites that are a better quality so keep watching, their will be lots more to see over the next few weeks!

I've had my brake now and have to go back and sort our house out, the builders are in replacing our kitchen and i have lot's of graphics work to do too, i'll need another holiday after all of this!

/ Understand there are occasional job openings for those who have any expertise ( particularly scaffolding)  in this line of work.  Can hardly wait until the walk is finished to take the tour.  First, the China wall, now this.  When will it end?  Credit where credit is due though,  they do know how to create jobs. /   Thousands of metres up the vertiginous slopes of Shifou Mountain in Hunan Province, China, a team of workers, operating with hardly any safety measures, are building a footpath The workers are building a plank road on the side of the mountain that, once it is finished, will stretch for 3km (9843 ft) and be China's longest sightseeing footpath 48-year-old Yu Ji (above) is one of the workers and he has been working on high cliffs building such plank roads for more than 10 years. He comments: "Young people don't want this job, as it requires them to stay deep in the mountains for months or even years" Yu Ji takes charge of the most dangerous part of the project - drilling the holes to set up pipes to support the footpath Building a plank road on Shifou Mountain is difficult because the cliff stands vertical at 90 degrees, without any slope or alcoves A finished section of the footpath
